How to get to Salamanca

From Madrid (the recommended option):

  • Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas is the airport with international connections closest to the city of Salamanca.
  • To get from the airport to Salamanca, there are several options:
1. By train

The trip can be made through Renfe, the only railway company in Spain with routes between both destinations. The journey time is two and a half hours minimum and four hours maximum, depending on the availability of high-speed trains.

To go from Madrid-Barajas to the main stations of Chamartín or Princípe Pío in Madrid, you can take the Renfe commuter lines C-1 and C-10. Tickets are on sale at the airport or through the website. You can also go to the stations using Metro lines 6, 8 and 10. Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport currently has four terminals. From any of them you can access the metro through the Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3 and Aeropuerto T4 stations. The opening hours to the public are from 6:00 to 1:30 am.

2. By bus

The Monbus company offers three daily trips from the airport directly to Salamanca. It is a slightly cheaper option than the train and avoids having to travel to the stations. The travel time is three hours. Tickets can be purchased online and buses depart from Terminals 1 and 4.

3. By car

The airport has different car rental companies. If you choose this alternative, you have to drive about two and a half hours on the A-6, AP-6 or AP-51 (with tolls), passing through Ávila and arriving in Salamanca on the A-50.

4. By shared car

Bla Bla Car can be a very helpful option when arrival times at the airport do not coincide with those of the train or bus. Some drivers start the trip from the airport, and others are usually flexible to pick up passengers at nearby locations.

From Lisbon

1. By bus

Alsa has trips to Salamanca from Lisbon Sete Rios and Lisbon Oriente stations. The trip takes about seven hours and tickets can be easily purchased on the website. Bla Bla Bus also has routes to Salamanca, travel time is the same as Alsa and purchase is online.

From Porto

1. By bus

Flixbus has trips from Porto Campanhã station, whose duration is about six hours (as do the following companies). Alsa also offers service and has a bus departing from Sa Carneiro Airport and another that starts the journey in Porto Campanhã. Finally, Bla Bla Bus offers a route through the company Gypsyy. All three options handle purchases mainly online.
